Genshin Impact Yaoyao - Everything We Know
Looking for details around Genshin Impact's Yaoyao? This young girl, who was taken in by Ganyu, first appeared all the way back in Genshin Impact 1.1 as a leak that surfaced surrounding Liyue Harbor's Mid-Autumn Festival. Players spotted Yaoyao in some promo art for the event, and more datamined info surfaced claiming that she was intended to be the first Dendro character in Genshin Impact.
But even though we've never met Yaoyao in-game, other characters do talk about her. Ningguang mentions how Ganyu has taken Yaoyao under her wing, but that she's grown a little too obsessed with seafood after hanging out on the Alcor. Beidou confirms this, saying how the girl loves to come and visit the ship when it's in port, but refuses to leave when it's time to heave anchor. And as Ganyu and Beidou are secretly friends, this also tracks.
So, with Liyue Harbor's Autumn Moonchase Festival on the horizon, it's the perfect time to revisit this mysterious young girl. Here's everything we know about Genshin Impact's Yaoyao, including a possible release date, her weapon, and her likely abilities.
What Is the Genshin Impact Yaoyao Release Date?
Just as with Baizhou, it's not possible for Yaoyao to appear in-game before the Dendro element is introduced, and this wouldn't make sense before Sumeru – realm of the Dendro Archon – is added. Luckily, that shouldn't be too far off.
If the Genshin Impact preview trailer is to be believed, Sumeru is the next realm we'll visit after Inazuma, so maybe Yaoyao and Baizhou will be the first two Dendro characters to be introduced. Perhaps Dendro will even be introduced before Sumeru to give players a chance to grab characters in advance of the new region.
Is There a Genshin Impact Yaoyao Banner?
There isn't a Genshin Impact Yaoyao banner currently, as it may still be a fair while before she arrives. But as she is supposedly a five-star character, it's likely she won't appear alongside Baizhu, since the new Genshin Impact banners never feature two five-star characters at once – that is unless she is downgraded to a four-star.
Who Is Yaoyao?
This young girl was a junior disciple to Xiangling and they studied under the same master chef, who it turns out was Madame Ping, but since then Yaoyao was taken in by the secretary to the Liyue Qixing, Ganyu, and assists her with day-to-day work. We don't know much else about her, but considering her connection to Xiangling and that she was an apprentice chef, many players think that miHoYo will introduce her as part of the food festival event, Moonlight Merriment.
But considering Yaoyao isn't featured in the Moonchase Festival cutscene (even though other potential characters like Yunjin and Yelan are), the chances of seeing her anytime soon have become slim. Also, be warned that this cutscene is a bit of a spoiler, but considering the quest it belongs to is no longer available, this is now the only way you can see it.
Genshin Impact Yaoyao Build and Abilities
Yaoyao looks to be a Dendro character, so like Baizhou, she'll be using the plant-based element. Dendro is the last element to be added to Genshin Impact, so we don't know exactly what it looks like. However, there are Dendro enemies in the Genshin already, including Dendro Slimes and Dendro Samachurls, and there is already one Dendro elemental reaction, Burning. When Dendro releases, even more reactions will be added alongside an elemental resonance, presumably.
Genshin Impact Yaoyao Weapon
Datamining revealed that Yaoyao is most likely a catalyst user, but there hasn't been any news in regards to a specific unique weapon she uses. However, there are already plenty of strong catalysts in the game that she could use when she arrives. Baizhou is also slated to be a catalyst user, but it's unlikely that both will be if they arrive at the same time. In this case, YaoYao might receive a new weapon instead, such as a bow, claymore, polearm, or sword.
